colleges, schools and training providers

SEO for colleges, schools and training providers in London

A prospective student searches a course, not an institution, and then searches your name to check you are real. Education SEO gives every course its own page, makes the accreditation and the outcomes verifiable, and keeps the social presence and the search presence telling the same story.

Rules that shape the work

8 rules, each linked to its source

What we will and will not do for colleges, schools and training providers, and why. Where a point is unclear for your case we read the current guidance before we publish rather than guess.

  • Ofsted: a college or training provider may describe its inspection grade only as the latest published report states it, with the date; "Ofsted rated" without the grade and date is not a claim we publish (gov.uk)
  • UK Visas and Immigration student sponsor guidance: a provider may say it sponsors international students only if it holds a current Student sponsor licence on the published register, and a page may not imply visa outcomes (gov.uk)
  • Register of licensed sponsors (students): the public register is where we check a sponsor claim before it appears on a course page or in an international campaign (gov.uk)
  • CMA consumer law advice for higher education providers: course information, fees, changes and complaints are consumer-law matters, so course pages state the fees, the entry requirements, the delivery mode and the awarding body accurately and keep them current (gov.uk)
  • Ofqual register: a qualification may be described as regulated, and its level stated, only if it appears on the Ofqual register under that awarding organisation (register.ofqual.gov.uk)
  • Office for Students: a provider on the OfS register may say so, and the conditions of registration (including consumer protection) apply to how courses are marketed (officeforstudents.org.uk)
  • British Council Accreditation UK: an English language centre may describe itself as British Council accredited only while it is on the Accreditation UK list, which is also where the inspection report is published (britishcouncil.org)
  • CAP Code (non-broadcast): employment and salary outcomes, pass rates and "guaranteed" progression are claims that need substantiation, and testimonials must be genuine and current (asa.org.uk)

If you run a college, a school, a language centre or a training provider in London, you already know that a prospective student is comparing you with a dozen others in a single evening, from a phone, and that the big institutions and the course aggregators sit above you in search. Here is what search can and cannot do about it. It can give every course its own page so the specific search ("CIPD level 5 course London", "English language school London") finds you, make your accreditation, your fees and your outcomes verifiable at a glance, and make sure the student who saw your reel and searched your name lands on something that agrees with it. It cannot promise an enrolment number, rank a thin course list above a university, or make an unaccredited course look accredited.

This page covers further education and sixth form colleges, independent schools, language schools, professional training providers (HR, legal, accounting, IT), tutoring businesses and adult education. The rules are the ones that make an education claim true or false, and they are set out first.

How prospective students search in London

Education search in London is course-led, then name-led. The first search names a qualification, a subject or a need: "accredited HR courses London evening", "ACCA tuition London part time", "A level tutor Harrow". These are won by course pages: one per course, stating the awarding body, the level, the delivery mode, the schedule, the fees and the entry requirements, and written for the person deciding rather than for a prospectus. The second search is your name, made after a reel, a recommendation or a leaflet, and it is won by a presence that agrees with itself: the Google Business Profile, the reviews, the social feed and the site telling the same story.

International students add a third layer. They search in their own country for "study in London" plus a subject, and they check the sponsor register, the accreditation and the reviews before they enquire; international SEO is about being findable and credible in those markets without implying a visa outcome. Local searches ("sixth form college Greenwich open day", "adult education courses Camden") are answered by the Google Business Profile and a page per campus. The table shows the kind of search we build for; no volumes are quoted because we only use figures from a named tool on a named date.

Example education searches in London and what each one needs. Strings and intents only; no volumes are quoted.

For a college the search and the scroll meet: a prospective student who sees the reel will search the name, and the content and the search presence need to agree. Cadence matters more than any single post; a publisher rhythm is what turns a feed into evidence that the institution is active. That is the lesson from our London education case, below.

The rules that shape the work

Education claims are checkable, so we check them. An Ofsted grade is quoted as the latest report states it, with the date. A Student sponsor claim is checked against the UKVI register before it appears anywhere, and no page implies a visa outcome. A regulated qualification and its level are stated only as the Ofqual register shows them. Course fees, entry requirements, changes and complaints are consumer-law matters under the CMA’s advice to higher education providers, and the Office for Students’ conditions apply to registered providers. English language centres may describe themselves as British Council accredited only while listed. Employment outcomes, pass rates and testimonials are CAP Code claims. The rules block above links to each.

What we do for education providers

Course pages and SEO content

One page per course, written for the decision: who it is for, what you will be able to do, the awarding body and level (as the register states them), the schedule and delivery mode, the fees, the entry requirements and the next start date. Then the explainer content a prospective student searches before choosing: how a qualification compares, what a route leads to, how funding works. See SEO content.

Social media

Editorial posts and reels on a consistent schedule, built around career outcomes and real campus life, so that the feed is evidence the institution is active and the student who sees it lands on a site that agrees. This is the work we did for Innovate College London. See social media marketing.

International SEO

For providers recruiting overseas: pages and structured data for the countries and languages you recruit from, the sponsor status and accreditation made verifiable, and no implied visa outcome anywhere. See international SEO.

Local SEO for campuses

A Business Profile per campus with the right categories, photographs, hours and open-day events, reviews requested from students and parents within the CMA’s rules and answered, and a campus page per site. See local SEO.

Proof from education work

Our education case is in London. Editorial social posts and reels for Innovate College London, on a consistent schedule. No performance figures are published for this client. The work was editorial social built around career outcomes (HR, legal and professional qualifications), produced and posted with a consistent cadence to reach prospective students in the UK and overseas. We publish the scope and the creative, and we do not attach an enrolment or enquiry figure to it, because none is published.

What a London provider can take from it: for a college the search and the scroll meet, and cadence matters more than any single post. Every case on the case studies page names what it claims and where that came from.

If you become an education client, here is what we would measure and report monthly: enquiries and open-day registrations from each course page, the course and qualification searches we track, and the name searches and profile actions that follow the social schedule. No figure would be published about your institution without your written permission.

Month one for an education provider

  1. Week 1: audit the Business Profile for each campus, crawl the site for course pages that are lists rather than pages, and check every accreditation, sponsor and Ofsted claim against the registers and the latest report.
  2. Week 2: fix the technical faults and the profile data; agree the course page template and the order in which courses get their own pages, starting with the ones your enquiries data says matter most.
  3. Week 3: publish the first course pages with awarding body, level, fees, schedule and entry requirements stated and marked up; set the social schedule and the review request flow in line with CMA208.
  4. Week 4: the first report: enquiries by course page, the course searches we track, profile actions per campus, and the content and social schedule for month two.

Technical fixes are usually re-crawled within two to eight weeks; new course pages often begin to appear for specific qualification searches within one to three months; competitive subject terms in London usually take six to twelve months. Typical ranges from our own work, not a promise for your institution.

Where education searches concentrate

Camden, with Bloomsbury and King’s Cross, is the densest concentration of higher and further education in London, and the hardest market for a smaller provider to be seen in; specificity wins there. Greenwich combines a university population with a large sixth-form and adult-education market. Harrow is one of the strongest tutoring and independent-school markets in outer London. The work is delivered from our office at Tower 42 in the City, by appointment, and we visit colleges and providers across London; we do not claim a local office in your borough.

Who does the work

Search for education accounts is led by our SEO specialist, Muhammad Ali; social is led by our head of social media strategy, Oliver James Whitmore. Both are named with their roles on the team page. We do not describe sector experience for a person that we cannot evidence.

What it costs

For an education provider the cost is driven by the number of courses that need their own pages, the number of campuses, whether you recruit internationally and how much social content you want produced. The pricing page explains what drives the cost, the minimum term and what you keep if you leave, and the terms are repeated in plain English on before you sign.

Questions

Questions from colleges, schools and training providers

We have 60 courses. Does each one really need its own page?
The ones people search for do, because a prospective student searches a qualification, not a course list, and a list page cannot rank for sixty different searches. We start with the courses your enquiries data says matter most and build the rest in order, using one template so the work is steady rather than enormous.
Can you write that we are Ofsted rated or British Council accredited?
Only as the latest report or the current register states it, with the grade and the date. We check every accreditation, sponsor and inspection claim against the source before publishing it. A claim a parent or agent checks and cannot verify does more harm than no claim.
We recruit international students. Can you help us be found overseas?
Yes, through international SEO: pages and structured data for the countries you recruit from, the sponsor status and accreditation made verifiable, and nothing that implies a visa outcome. The UKVI register is where a sponsor claim is checked before it appears on any page.
Can you publish our employment outcomes and pass rates?
When they can be substantiated, with the basis and the date stated, yes. Outcome claims fall under the CAP Code and the CMA’s consumer-law advice to providers, so the method matters as much as the number. We would rather publish a modest figure with its basis than a strong one without.
Does social media matter for a college, or is this about search?
Both, because they meet. A prospective student who sees a reel searches the name; the feed is evidence the institution is active, and the site has to agree with it. Our Innovate College London work was editorial social on a consistent schedule, which is the model we would propose alongside course page SEO.
Do you work with other colleges or providers near us?
Possibly. Before you sign we tell you if we already work with a direct competitor offering the same qualifications in the same area, and an exclusion can be agreed in writing where it matters. We would rather say so than surprise you.
How long before enquiries increase?
Technical fixes are re-crawled within two to eight weeks; new course pages often begin to appear for specific qualification searches within one to three months; competitive subject terms in London take six to twelve months. Typical ranges from our own work, not a promise. Enquiries by course page are tracked from month one.
Have you worked with a London education provider?
Yes: Innovate College London, for which we produced editorial social posts and reels on a consistent schedule. No performance figures are published for that client, and we do not attach one. It is one of our two published London cases; the other is a restaurant.
