Local SEO in London

The whole local system, not one listing: your Google Business Profile, a page on your site for every place you serve, consistent citations, reviews that keep coming, and tracking that shows which searches ended in a call or a visit.

Who this is for in London

Local SEO is for a business whose customers choose on the map. They search for a service, a place or "near me", Google shows three businesses with a pin, a rating and a photograph, and the decision is made in seconds on a phone. If that is how your customers find you, the map is your shop window and local SEO is the whole system behind it.

  • A dental practice in Islington (N1) in a cluster of practices within a short walk of each other. The searches are "dentist Islington", "emergency dentist near me" and "invisalign Angel", and the three in the local pack take most of the calls. The practice has good reviews, an out-of-date profile and no page for the treatments people actually search for.
  • A heating engineer who lives in Sutton and covers Croydon, Sutton and Bromley with no shopfront. A service-area business like this cannot show a storefront address and has to earn its place in each area with service pages, reviews that mention the places, and a profile set up correctly for a hidden address.
  • A restaurant group with sites in Soho, Shoreditch and Brixton. Each site has its own profile, menu and reviews, the website treats them as one brand, and the group wants one team, one report and no profile competing with its sibling.

It is not right for you if you sell nationally with no physical presence and no service radius. Then the managed SEO or ecommerce SEO page is the honest fit. And if the only thing wrong is the profile itself, the Google Business Profile optimisation service is smaller and cheaper than this one.

What you get

Local visibility baseline
Where you appear in Maps and the local pack for your main searches, measured from several points across the area you serve rather than from one desk.
Google Business Profile in order
Categories, services, photos, posts, Q&A and review replies set up and kept current. The profile itself has its own page; here it is one part of the system.
Location and service pages
A real page for each place and each service you offer, written for how people there search, with the address, directions, team and reviews on it.
Citations and consistency
Your name, address, phone and hours made identical across directories, maps, social profiles and your own site, with old or duplicate listings removed.
Review generation and replies
A simple way for happy customers to leave a review, and replies to every review within platform rules. No fake reviews, no promises of removals.
Local links and mentions
Mentions from local press, trade bodies, suppliers, schools and community pages that place you in your area in Google’s eyes.
Call and visit tracking
Calls, direction requests and website clicks from the profile, call tracking on the site, and enquiries in GA4, so the report counts customers rather than positions.
Monthly written report
What we did, what moved on the map and on the site, and what is next, with Google Business Profile, Search Console and GA4 as the sources.

How local search works in London, and how we work with it

Google decides the local pack on three things: how close a business is to the searcher, how well it matches what was searched, and how prominent it is, which is a mix of reviews, mentions, links and the site behind the profile. London adds its own conditions. Boroughs mean nothing to Google but neighbourhood names and postcode districts mean a great deal: people search "Clapham" and "SW4", not "Lambeth". Density is extreme in the centre, so the radius Google draws is small and a business a mile away may as well be in another city. In outer boroughs the radius widens and a well-run profile can hold a whole area.

So the system we build has four parts, and each one is weak without the others. The profile is the pin, the rating and the photograph. The website gives Google a page about each place and each service, which is what lets the profile rank for more than the business name. Citations prove the business is real and where it says it is. Reviews, and the replies to them, are the prominence signal customers read before they call. Tracking ties all of it to calls, direction requests and enquiries so we know which searches pay.

For a business with one address we build around that address and the districts within its natural radius. For a service-area business we set the profile up with a hidden address and build service pages for each area covered, with reviews that name those areas. For groups, each site gets its own profile and page, the website explains the relationship, and the report shows every location on one page. The local SEO guide explains the method in full, and the borough ranking guide covers the differences between inner and outer London.

What changes and when

Technical fixes are usually re-crawled within two to eight weeks. Local search changes often show within one to three months. Competitive London head terms usually take six to twelve months. These are typical ranges from our own work, not a promise for your site, and we report progress every month so you can see which it is.

Local work moves faster than head-term SEO because the signals are more direct. Profile corrections show within days of approval. A new location page is usually indexed and appearing for the place name within the first month or two. Reviews and citations accumulate; their effect on the local pack usually shows across the one-to-three-month window, and then keeps building. Results also vary by search: Leam Taxis saw impressions rise 60 to 300 percent and calls 30 to 150 percent across tracked terms, and we quote that as a range for exactly that reason.

How it is measured

What we report: where you appear in the local pack for each main search across the area, the calls, direction requests and website clicks your profile produced, which searches found you (your name, or your service), the enquiries and calls from location pages on the site, and the review count and reply rate. Where it comes from: Google Business Profile performance reports, Search Console for the pages, GA4 and call tracking for the enquiries. All in your accounts, so you can open them at any time.

What we do not report: a single "rank" for a search that returns a different pack in every postcode, or a traffic figure with no call or visit behind it. The guide to "near me" searches explains why a local rank is always a map, not a number.

What it costs to find out

Nothing. The free SEO audit is a written review delivered within two working days by an SEO specialist from the team. For a local business the second section is the one that matters: your Google Business Profile checked against the two nearest competitors on categories, services, photos, posts, review count and reply rate, followed by where you appear from London for the five searches that bring customers, and the three fixes that matter most with instructions you can follow yourself.

Local SEO is priced for a single location or for a group of two to five, and the inclusions for each are on the pricing page. What drives the price: the number of locations, how dense the competition is around each one, and how many service and location pages the site needs. Our terms are on the before you sign page: no minimum term, and every account in your name. These terms are proposed and are confirmed in writing before you sign.

Common mistakes we see on London sites

  • One profile and one page for a business with three sites, so the two other locations do not exist as far as the map is concerned.
  • Place names stuffed into the business name on the profile, which breaks Google’s guidelines and gets the listing suspended at the worst moment.
  • A single "areas we cover" page listing every borough from Barnet to Bromley. A list of names is not a page about a place.
  • Hundreds of reviews and not one reply, so the next customer reads silence.
  • Old listings from a previous address or phone number still live on directories, so Google sees two versions of the business.
  • A service-area business showing a home address on the map, or hiding it incorrectly so the profile never appears at all.
  • Hours on the profile that disagree with the website, and both disagreeing with the door.

How it fits with other services

If the profile is the only problem, Google Business Profile optimisation covers that piece alone. If reviews are the problem, reputation management runs the generation, monitoring and replies as its own service. Many local clients need a site that can carry location pages, which is where web design comes in. Businesses that also compete for London-wide searches fold local work into a managed campaign. For restaurants, clinics and venues, the content that fills the room is the content that earns the next review, so social media and local search are often one plan. Groups should read the multi-location guide first.

Proof, stated plainly

Leam Taxis reached first place for airport-transfer searches in Leamington Spa; across tracked terms impressions rose 60 to 300 percent, website clicks 50 to 200 percent and calls 30 to 150 percent (Google Business Profile, Search Console and GA4). Local SEO and a rebuilt site for Gladstone Garage in York, RAC Approved, which holds 4.6 stars across 178 Google reviews (as at 7 Jul 2026). Both are outside London, and we say so. Read the Leam Taxis case or the Gladstone Garage case.

In London, our published work is reels-first social and reputation work for Blac in Whetstone (N20), which holds 4.6 stars across 341 Google reviews and 7.9 out of 10 on TheFork (figures as at 7 Jul 2026). Those are the client’s own reviews, earned by the restaurant; the work was the content and the review system around it, which is one part of what this page describes. We have not yet published a full London local SEO case, and we would rather say so than imply one. Read the Blac case.

Questions

9 questions

Local SEO: questions answered

How quickly does local SEO show in Google Maps?
Profile corrections show within days once Google approves them. Local search changes often show within one to three months, and keep building as reviews and mentions accumulate. These are typical ranges from our own work, not a promise, and the monthly report shows which searches are moving.
What is the difference between local SEO and Google Business Profile optimisation?
The profile is one part. Local SEO is the whole system: the profile, the pages on your website for each place and service, consistent citations, reviews and replies, local mentions, and the tracking that ties them to calls. If only the profile needs work, buy only that; the Google Business Profile service is the smaller product.
Do you reply to reviews for us?
Yes, if you want us to, in your voice and within each platform’s rules, and we send you anything that needs your judgement first. We will not write fake reviews, and we will not promise to get a genuine negative review removed; nobody honest can.
We have no shopfront. Can we still rank locally?
Yes. A service-area business sets its profile up with a hidden address and the areas it covers, and earns its place in each area with service pages, reviews that mention those places and local citations. It is slower than ranking at a storefront address, and we will tell you which areas are realistic.
What if another agency already manages our Business Profile?
We can work with them or take over, whichever you decide. Either way the profile must be owned by your Google account, not theirs. Transferring ownership is the first thing we check, and we will not start work on a profile the business does not control.
Can you guarantee a place in the map pack?
No. The local pack changes with the searcher’s location, the time and the competitors, and Google says itself that no one can guarantee a ranking. We guarantee the work on the plan, and we show where you appear across the area each month so you can see it move.
Is there a minimum contract?
No minimum term. Thirty days’ written notice at any point, including month one, and no exit fee. Your profile, pages, reviews and accounts are in your name and stay with you. These terms are proposed and are confirmed in writing before you sign.
Who does the work?
Muhammad Ali, our SEO Specialist, leads it, with our developers building the pages and the content team writing them. The team is named on the team page, and your account lead is the same person every month.
What drives the price?
The number of locations, how dense the competition is around each one, and how many service and location pages your site needs. Single-location and multi-location inclusions are on the pricing page.
