Who this is for in London

Managed SEO is for a London business that has decided search should be a channel rather than an experiment. You have a site that works, a service people look for, and competitors who already appear when they do. What you need is one team that runs the technical, content, link and local work together, month after month, and shows you the figures.

  • A law firm near Chancery Lane whose partners are known in their field but whose website appears for the firm name and nothing else. The searches that bring new instructions, such as "employment solicitor London" or "commercial lease dispute lawyer", belong to firms with more pages, more citations and faster sites.
  • A dental group with practices in Clapham and Balham. Each practice has a Google Business Profile, the website has a single "our locations" page, and the two profiles compete with each other more than with the practice next door. The local work and the site work need one plan.
  • A software company in Shoreditch (EC2A) whose blog brings visitors who never book a demo. The traffic is real, the pages are not written for the people who buy, and nobody has connected Search Console to the sales pipeline.

It is not right for you if you need results inside 30 days (paid search is the honest answer to that), or if your budget is below the floor for a retainer. In that case start with the scorecard and the guide to doing it yourself. We would rather you spend nothing than spend too little.

In detail

How we run a managed campaign

Every campaign starts with the same review, whatever the sector: where the site appears today, from London, for the five searches that matter most; what your Business Profile does and does not do; the technical blockers a crawl and a hand check find; and the content gap against the two sites that outrank you. From that we write a 90-day plan ranked by impact. Month one has a deliverables list that is written down before you pay anything, and if we miss a listed item for a reason within our control, that month is credited.

The work then runs in four strands under one plan. Technical first, because content and links built on a site Google cannot crawl or render are wasted. Content next: the service, location and guide pages that match how London customers search, written in your voice and approved by you before they go live. Links and mentions earned from coverage an editor chose to give, never bought. And local work where you serve a radius: the profile, the citations and the reviews.

London changes the plan more than most cities do. Competition is set by borough and sector, not by the city as a whole. A plumber in Havering and a plumber in Westminster face different rivals; so do a restaurant in Soho and one in Whetstone. Head terms with "London" in them are among the most contested commercial searches in the country, and most businesses do not need them. They need the borough, the district and the specific service. Our plan says which searches you can realistically win in six months and which are a year away, and we write that down rather than leaving you to find out.

Who does it: Muhammad Ali, our SEO Specialist, leads delivery, connecting search intent, technical foundations and local visibility into one practical plan. Muhammad Abubakar, Full-Stack Developer and Lead, ships the technical work. Momna Imran, Communications and Audit, keeps every recommendation grounded in evidence you can inspect. Specialists across the group contribute where a brief needs them, and you deal with one named account lead throughout. The whole team is named and pictured.

What changes and when

Technical fixes are usually re-crawled within two to eight weeks. Local search changes often show within one to three months. Competitive London head terms usually take six to twelve months. These are typical ranges from our own work, not a promise for your site, and we report progress every month so you can see which it is.

In practice: by day 30 you hold the review, the agreed plan and the first technical fixes live on the site. By day 90 the priority pages are published, the profile is in order and Search Console shows which searches have started to move. Ranking and traffic movement on contested terms usually shows between months three and six. We do not guarantee it, and we say so in the contract. The first 90 days are set out step by step.

How it is measured

What we report: the searches you appear for and where, clicks and impressions by page and by area of London, the calls, enquiries and sales those visits produced, and the work completed against the plan. Where it comes from: Google Search Console, GA4 and Google Business Profile, all in accounts you own, so every figure can be checked without asking us. How often: a written report every month and a review every quarter, at Tower 42 or on video. Our guide to SEO reporting shows what a good report looks like and what to be suspicious of.

What we do not report: a ranking position for a phrase nobody searches, a traffic figure with no enquiry behind it, or a "domain score" from a tool. If a number cannot be tied to the business, it is not in the report.

What it costs to find out

Nothing. The free SEO audit is a written review of your site by an SEO specialist from the team, delivered within two working days of your request. It covers where you show up today for the five searches that matter, your Business Profile against the two nearest competitors, the technical blockers found by hand, the content gap, and the three fixes that matter most, each with a plain-English instruction so it is useful even if you never buy anything. It ends with one honest paragraph on fit, including, where it is true, that you do not need an agency yet.

Retainer prices and what drives them are on the pricing page: the size of the site, how contested your borough and sector are, the volume of content, and whether local or ecommerce work is included. Our terms are set out in plain English on the before you sign page. The cost guide explains the London market with its sources.

Common mistakes we see on London sites

  • One "areas we cover" page listing forty boroughs, instead of a real page for each place the business actually serves. Google treats a list of place names as a list, not as evidence.
  • Chasing "SEO agency London"-style head terms when the searches that pay are the service plus the district: "boiler repair Croydon", "invisalign Fulham", "accountant Canary Wharf".
  • A redesign that changed every URL with no redirect map, so years of rankings were handed back on launch day.
  • Blog posts written for a keyword tool rather than a buyer, so traffic rises and enquiries do not.
  • Business Profile categories, hours and the website address disagreeing with the site, with directories and old listings adding a third version.
  • Links bought from networks that worked for a season and now hold the site back.
  • Reports that show rankings and sessions and never mention a call, a booking or a sale.

How it fits with other services

A retainer is the right shape when the work needs to continue. If you want a one-off diagnosis first, the SEO audit is that. If the site itself is the blocker, technical SEO or a migration may come before anything else. Stores need the ecommerce version of this plan, and businesses chosen on the map need local SEO at its centre. In-house teams that want senior direction rather than delivery should look at consultancy. On every retainer we also baseline how Google AI, ChatGPT and Gemini describe you, because the work that earns a citation is the same work that earns a ranking; see AI search optimisation.

Proof, stated plainly

Leam Taxis reached first place for airport-transfer searches in Leamington Spa; across tracked terms impressions rose 60 to 300 percent, website clicks 50 to 200 percent and calls 30 to 150 percent (Google Business Profile, Search Console and GA4). We give the range, not the best number, because that is how results arrive: some searches move a lot and some barely move. Read the Leam Taxis case.

We have not yet published a London client case for a managed SEO retainer. Our London clients to date are in social and reputation work, and we would rather say so than borrow a case from another city and call it local. Ask us for a reference call instead; every case we do publish names the client, the figure, the source and the date.

Questions

8 questions

Managed SEO: questions answered

Do you guarantee first-page rankings?
No. No honest agency can, Google says so itself, and our contract says so too. What we guarantee is the work: the month-one deliverables for your tier are listed before you sign, and if we miss one for a reason within our control that month is credited. Every result we publish names the client, the figure, the source and the date.
How long before we see anything?
Technical fixes are usually re-crawled within two to eight weeks. Local search changes often show within one to three months. Competitive London head terms usually take six to twelve months. Those are typical ranges from our own work, not a promise for your site, and the monthly report shows which range you are in.
Is there a minimum contract?
No minimum term. You can give 30 days’ written notice at any point, including in month one, and there is no exit fee. The same sentence appears on the pricing page, in your written quote and in the contract. The before you sign page sets out every term in plain English. These terms are proposed and are confirmed in writing before you sign.
Who actually does the work? Is it offshore?
Named people you can look up. Muhammad Ali leads SEO delivery, Muhammad Abubakar leads development, and Momna Imran runs communications and audit. Specialists across the group contribute where a brief needs them, led by a UK account lead you can name and phone. All 28 people are on the team page with real names, roles and photographs.
What drives the price?
Four things: the size of the site, how contested your borough and sector are, the volume of content the plan needs, and whether local or ecommerce work is included. Prices and what each tier includes are on the pricing page; nothing is quoted that is not written there.
What do we get in month one?
The written review, the agreed 90-day plan, the first technical fixes live on the site, your Business Profile and analytics accounts set up or transferred into your name, and the first monthly report. The exact list for your tier is on the pricing page and in your written quote.
Can we keep our current web developer?
Yes. We write tickets your developer can act on, or we ship the changes ourselves, whichever you prefer. What we need is access to the CMS and to Search Console and GA4, created in your name.
Do you only work with businesses in the City?
No. We work from the Tower 42 office, by appointment, and visit clients across all 33 London boroughs. Most of the work happens in your accounts and on your site; the quarterly review happens at Tower 42 or on video, whichever suits you. See the areas of London we cover.
