Web design and development in London

Websites designed and built to be found and to convert: Next.js, WordPress or Shopify, fast on a phone, with the URL plan, the redirects, the structured data and the tracking decided before the first design, so launch day does not cost you the rankings you already have.

Who it is for

3 London scenarios

Who this is for in London

Web design here means a site that is built to be found and to convert, not a brochure that looks good in a pitch. It suits a London business that already knows search matters, that has a site holding it back or no site at all, and that wants the people who design the pages and the people who make them rank to be the same team.

  • An estate agency with branches in Wandsworth and Putney running a template site where every branch and every service shares one page. The site cannot rank for lettings in one place and sales in another because the pages do not exist.
  • A law firm in Holborn that redesigned last year, lost a third of its enquiries and never found out why. The old URLs were dropped without redirects, and the practice-area pages that ranked were merged into one.
  • A garage or heating firm in Enfield with a five-page site that cannot be found for MOT, service or boiler repair searches, because the services are a bullet list rather than pages, and the phone number is an image.

It is not right for you if you need a site live in a fortnight, where a template and a tidy-up are the honest answer and we will say so, or if you want a visual refresh with no change to structure and are happy to keep what you have. If the current site is sound and the problem is speed or indexing, technical SEO is cheaper than a rebuild, and the review will tell you which.

In detail

How we design and build

Search first, then structure, then design. We start with what your customers in London type: the services, the places, the questions. That gives the list of pages the site needs, and the list becomes a sitemap and a URL plan agreed before design starts. Every old URL gets a one-to-one redirect to its new home, because a redesign that drops the pages Google already trusts is how businesses lose rankings they spent years earning. The website redesign SEO checklist sets out the order we follow.

Design is mobile first, because a London customer searching on the move is on a phone. Muhammad Saad, our Web Designer, shapes hierarchy and interaction so visitors understand the offer, trust the evidence and know what to do next; designs are reviewed with you using real content, never placeholder text. Accessibility is part of the design brief: contrast, focus states, keyboard navigation and form labels are decided at the start, not patched at the end.

The platform follows the brief. Next.js gives the fastest pages and the most control and suits businesses that want a site built to a specification and left alone; WordPress suits teams who publish often and want a familiar editor, with our WordPress developer Abdur Rehman keeping the plugin load honest; Shopify suits anyone selling products. Muhammad Abubakar, Full-Stack Developer and Lead, builds the technical systems behind fast, reliable websites and clean search foundations, and Javaid Ahmad, Senior Project Manager, keeps the stages in order with clear ownership from decision to release. Everyone is named and pictured on the team page.

How we choose a platform. We recommend; you decide; the reasons are written into the brief.

ShopifyAnyone selling products onlineFast with a lean theme; apps are the riskProduct and content editing in Shopify admin

Then the build, tested on a staging site you can click through on your own phone. A full crawl checks every page, title, canonical and redirect; speed is measured on real devices; structured data is validated; tracking is tested from click to enquiry in your GA4. Launch happens on a day we can all watch, and we keep watching for 30 days.

The rebuilt site for Gladstone Garage in York, built around MOT, service and repair alongside local SEO, is the pattern for a trusted local business; the garage is RAC Approved and holds 4.6 stars across 178 Google reviews (the client’s own figures, as at 7 July 2026). Leam Taxis in Leamington Spa shows a site and search plan built around the phrases that book cars, and York Cars a bookings-first site for a private-hire operator. For stores, Ideal Furniture World and Jaquar Midlands are Shopify builds with product catalogue work. None of these is a London client, and we say so rather than imply otherwise.

What changes, and when

Each stage of the project has a date in the written quote, and the timeline depends on the number of templates, the content and how quickly decisions come back. After launch the search side moves at Google’s pace, not ours: Technical fixes are usually re-crawled within two to eight weeks. Local search changes often show within one to three months. Competitive London head terms usually take six to twelve months. These are typical ranges from our own work, not a promise for your site, and we report progress every month so you can see which it is.

Expect some movement in rankings in the weeks after any migration while Google re-crawls the redirects and the new templates; the 30 days of watching exist to catch anything that moves the wrong way. The website migration checklist explains what is normal and what is not.

How it is measured

Before launch: a staging crawl with no errors, every redirect tested, speed passing on a mid-range phone in lab tests, structured data validating, and tracking recording a test enquiry in your GA4. After launch: Core Web Vitals field data from Google’s own Chrome UX Report, which reflects real visitors over a 28-day window; indexed pages against the pages that should be indexed; impressions and clicks in Search Console compared with the month before launch; and enquiries, calls and bookings in GA4. The accounts are in your name, so you can open the same screens we do. The Core Web Vitals guide explains the three speed measures in plain English.

What it costs to find out

Start with the free review. The free SEO audit is written by a person and delivered within two working days, and its last paragraph is an honest one on fit: whether your site needs fixes, a new build or nothing yet. We will say "you need a website before SEO" when it is true, and "your site is fine, spend elsewhere" when that is true too.

If a build goes ahead, we quote a fixed price in writing against the brief. What drives it: the number of templates and pages, the platform, whether there is a store, how much content is written or migrated, integrations such as booking systems or a CRM, and whether photography is needed. Payment is staged against the dated milestones. Domain, hosting, CMS and code are in your accounts from the start, so nothing is held hostage. Terms are on the pricing page and the before you sign page.

Common mistakes we see on London sites

  • A redesign launched with no redirect map, so every link and ranking the old site earned points at a 404.
  • One "areas we cover" page listing all 33 boroughs, with nothing on it a resident of any of them would recognise.
  • A page builder, three sliders and a chat widget loading before the first word, on a site people open on the Tube.
  • The phone number as an image or buried in a footer, when the call is the conversion.
  • No tracking at all, so nobody knows which page produced the enquiry, or a GA4 property owned by the last agency.
  • Stock photographs of a skyline or an office that is not yours, when a photograph of your actual team or room would convert better.
  • Forms with no confirmation page, no spam protection and no notification to the person who answers them.
  • A booking or quote link to a third-party system with no tracking, so the site’s best outcome is invisible in the report.

How it fits with other services

A new site is the foundation, not the finish. Technical SEO keeps it fast and indexable as it grows; migration work covers a platform or domain change in detail; WordPress SEO and Shopify SEO carry the platform-specific work after launch; conversion work turns the visits into enquiries; and local SEO connects the location pages to your Business Profile and the map. Because the designers, developers and SEO team sit in one group, the site is built by the people who will have to make it rank.

Questions

10 questions

Web design: questions answered

Will we lose our rankings when the new site goes live?
Not if the structure is planned. Every old URL gets a one-to-one redirect, the pages that rank keep their content and purpose, and the staging site is crawled before launch. Some movement in the weeks after a migration is normal while Google re-crawls, which is why we watch Search Console daily for 30 days. We cannot guarantee rankings; we can guarantee the redirect map and the checks.
Which platform should we use?
The one that fits how you work. Next.js for the fastest, most controlled build; WordPress if your team publishes often and wants a familiar editor; Shopify if you sell products. We recommend one in the brief with the reasons written down, and you decide.
How long does a website take?
It depends on the number of templates, how much content is written or migrated and how quickly decisions come back, so we put a date on each stage in the written quote rather than quote a number here. The structure stage is deliberately not rushed; it is where rankings are kept or lost.
Do we own the website and the code?
Yes. Domain, hosting, CMS, code, content and images are in your accounts from the start, and on exit all access is handed over within five working days. Nothing is held back if we part.
Do you host the site?
We set hosting up in your account with a provider that suits the platform, and you pay the host directly. We can manage it for you as part of a retainer, or hand you the credentials and a guide.
Can you redesign the site without changing the CMS?
Yes. Many projects are a new design and structure on the platform you already use. If the platform itself is the problem, we will say so and explain what moving would involve.
Who writes the content?
Either our content team, from the search map and interviews with you, or your team with our page briefs and on-page work. Content is approved by you before it goes live, and it is loaded as part of the build, not after.
Do you guarantee rankings or enquiries from the new site?
No. Rankings depend on content, competition and Google; enquiries depend on your offer and your market. We guarantee the work: the structure, the redirects, the speed targets in lab tests before launch, the tracking and the 30 days of watching, all listed in the written quote.
What drives the price?
Templates and page count, platform, whether there is a store, the volume of content written or migrated, integrations such as booking or CRM systems, and photography. The quote is fixed against the written brief and paid in stages.
Can you work with our brand or design agency?
Yes. We can build to their designs, supply the structure and technical requirements they need to design to, or share the work. The redirect map and the technical checks stay with us whichever way it runs.
